Release
This game is now 'released'. The new version just fixes a few rendering/build issues, so there's nothing new to see if you've already played the game.
Development notes copied over from the readme:
The last few fixes have finally been added for this game to be considered 'done'.
This is more an experiment/programming practice than it is an actual game. It's playable and I'm happy with it, but it isn't very engaging in its current state.
There's probably a way to make it work, but I'm not interested enough in it to spend the time to figure it out.
(I realized while making this that I don't like solitaire. I think I only beat this game one time.)
Trefoils/Erasers were not included because they would be difficult to add/remove from the puzzle grid while maintaining a valid solution.
There is one specific scenario where they would work though (I think, anyways), which is left as an exercise for the reader.
(It's dependent on the trefoil having color, so keep that in mind.)
For doing the polyominoes I read (some of) the book "Polyominoes" by Solomon W. Golomb and learned that they are called "polyominoes". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyominoes:_Puzzles,_Patterns,_Problems,_and_Pack...
I spent a bunch of time trying to recreate the afterimage/phosphene/illusory palinopsia (?) effect that appears after the menu/eye opening animation plays.
This guy has some interesting videos:
However, the custom method I created beats even the original game because it's able to produce a perfect lighting model that not only takes the game's framebuffer output into account, but also the user's actual environment and biometrics (extrapolated using a bespoke wifi signal sonar powered computer vision AI agent developed specifically for this effect), which exactly replicates the phenomenon and is indistinguishable from the one the user actually sees when playing the game in real life.
On its own, the idea of moving symbols around with the constraint of always having a valid solution is the most interesting aspect of this game.
A game designed just around that is something that would be worth playing/making.
There were probably some other notes from when I was actually working on this game last year, but I don't remember them. Next time I'll just fix the bug instead of forgetting about it for 11 months.
